Junior Dragster Program - Honor Roll Recipients
Congratulations to our Junior Dragsters (pictured above) who received their Honor Roll awards this month!
Youth & Education
There are auto mechanic program in each of the high schools in the Virgin Islands. These school are designed to teach students the mechanics of engine building. The program can be more attractive by having the schools be competitive against each other and actually build a high performance engine and compete against each other to determine who has built the engine with the most horsepower and who has the fastest vehicle by competing on the Car track with the vehicles. This will also give students the ability to consider being entrepreneurs by way of opening their own mechanic shops that tailors specifically to race cars.
Economic Development
Historically, Drag Racing has had a tremendous impact on the local economy. For example when an event occurs it attracts people from the entire Virgin Islands which includes St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and our neighboring islands of Puerto Rico. Tortola BVI and a number of the Caribbean Islands have also been invited to St. Croix in the past which includes St. Martin, Nevis, St. Kitts and Antigua. This has resulted in increased of airline occupancy, hotel occupancy, rental cars, restaurants, and other stores as well. These events has attracted more than fifty cars being involved in a single event.
Arts & Culture
These events can form a partnership with horse racing in the sense of building points towards the point series of the events. The facility can also be utilized as a sport bar to accommodate televised sporting events which includes horse racing, super bowl, World Series, and the NBA finals. This would be a very good opportunity to have local food and drinks on sale with music to build comradery.
Environment
In conjunction with giving high schools students the opportunity to build high performance engines for cars and compete against each other is the opportunity to practice safe guarding our environment through using recyclable materials and ensuring that waste such as used oil and other material are properly disposed of in recycle bins and site. Safety measures such as the wearing of safety clothing, proper headgears, safety belts and ensuring that the vehicles are equipped with the proper safety equipment required before the race cars can enter the drag strip.
