It all started when…

Drag racing in the U.S. Virgin Islands was formally sanctioned by Governor Cyril King in 1975 at the Anguilla abattoir. As a result of this action, the Caribbean Drag Racing Association (CDRA) was established in 1984 by a group of races and racing enthusiasts. Over the years, the Association, although still in existence, became defunct, with many of the original creators transiting in life.

However, recognizing the potential of the sport as not only an attraction, but an economic stimulus to the Territory, a group of dedicated racers decided to come together to reestablish the commitment and vision that once existed in the Caribbean Drag Racing Association. Thus, on Saturday, June 14, 2014, 67 paying members elected 11 of its members to serve as the new Board of Directors, and the CDRA was reorganized as the Caribbean Drag Racing Association, Inc. established in 1984 (hereafter knows as “CDRA, Inc.”). Most recently the CDRA held elections on Monday January 8, 2018 and decided to reduce the amount of members on the Board of Directors to Seven members in accordance with the Articles and Bylaws.

CDRA, Inc. consists of members from both St. Croix and St. Thomas/St. John. Its Board of Directors is comprised of members from St. Croix and the St. Thomas/ St John District, who were elected by the general membership to help foster a sense of unity among the islands, which the Association aims to keep as one of its primary goals.
